Private Farmhouse in the Montefalco wine region
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
Villa Spago is a bastion of spacious privacy crowning a verdant, level hilltop offering far reaching views across the green heart of Umbria with Mt. Subasio in the distance. Practically equidistant from three of Umbria's most sought after destinations: Perugia, Assisi and Todi, Villa Spago is tailor made for travelers seeking to explore all this region has to offer. A gated entry reveals over 800 olive trees along with large symmetrical tracts of dazzling sunflower fields providing shelter, privacy and an abundance of outdoor space. The owner produces a private stock of high quality, extra virigin olive oil available for guests to purchase.
This classic farmhouse and its one bedroom cottage are located in the Montefalco wine area comprised of 24 wineries producing highly rated dry red wines from the Sagrantino grape.
This home offers airy, clutter free rooms furnished with country antiques. All the windows are screened, and with the exception of the cottage bedroom, all the others are air conditioned along with the living and dining rooms. For those preferring minimal steps, two bedrooms with their own bathrooms are at ground level.
The cooks in the group will enjoy a kitchen equipped with professional appliances and a wood fired barbecue grill. The kind and accommodating family who owns Villa Spago will happily conduct a cooking class focused on Umbrian cuisine. Over the years, Parker guests have unanimously given us rave reviews over this experience.
A mid week refresh cleaning with a change of towels is included in the price. A weekday cooking class, a traditional dinner and a barbecue night may be requested when booking.
For smaller groups, Villa Spago may be rented for up to 8 guests with access to four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Just four miles from the villa is a small town called Bastardo. The translation is quite obvious, but how do townsfolk refer to themselves? Among the dozens of villages you pass en route to the more famous ones, stop in on these very nice folks. We'd love to know.
