Italy Vacation Rentals - Certified Luxury Villas, & Apartments
Strategically situated midway between Florence and Pisa and rising 1000 feet above the famous thermal spa town of Montecatini Terme, Catini Alto offers an unforgettable medieval village experience, unparalleled Tuscan views and a host of luxurious, modern day comforts. Accessing Lucca, the Tuscan coast and the Cinque Terre is a breeze from this stylish townhouse.
Aside from the incredibly strategic location, another perk of staying in a medieval village is walking access to a couple of restaurants, cafes and a local grocer within a few hundred yards. Start off the day with a frothy cappuccino or return home after a day of seeing the sites and walk up the street to the local trattoria.
Built over the ruins of this hill town's ancient walls, Catini Alto's meticulous restoration retained the original vaulted ceilings, exposed stonework and thick wooded beams. The owner thoughtfully incorporated air conditioning throughout, en suite bathrooms for each bedroom, a Swedish sauna and a rooftop terrace complete with a hot tub that's perfectly positioned for taking in amazing sunsets over the countryside.
The property comes with a wine cellar stocked with moderately priced local vintages, a well equipped kitchen with a wood burning oven, the availability of a local chef for an "acrobatic pizza night" (see photos) or a cooking class and an al fresco outdoor dining area. Included in the cost are a mid-week towel change and porter service on arrival and departure days.
Catini Alto is spread out over three floors - including the panoramic roof top terrace. A stay at this deluxe townhouse requires agility.
A two-minute walk from Catini Alto leads to the village's medieval gate. Free parking is just beyond the gate as are a cable car and a bus line on a commuter schedule that connect visitors to the bustle of Montecatini Terme below. We strongly recommend having a car. The cable car, while scenic and highly recommended, only operates seasonally.
By car, Montecatini Terme and the entrance to the A11 highway are reached in 10 minutes. The thermal spa town offers a host of dining and shopping venues as well as fast, frequent train service to Florence, Lucca, Pisa or Viareggio. Italy's signature Pinocchio theme park in nearby Collodi is within a 25 minute drive; the walled city of Lucca: 30; Florence airport: 35; the wide sandy beaches of Viareggio: 45; historic Florence, Pisa's leaning tower or Lake Puccini: 50; Greve or Castellina in Chianti: 65; Siena, Volterra, Bologna or the Cinque Terre: 90. Lots to see.
A tourist tax collected by the town is paid separately on the first seven nights. Children under age 10 are exempt.
