Italy Vacation Rentals - Certified Luxury Villas, & Apartments
Private villa rental on the Italian Riviera with pool.
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
Embracing a small yet very blue Mediterranean bay as the rising golden sun edges up the forested green slopes of the Portofino promontory is a spectacular way to start the day. This is how mornings begin from the many balconies and terraced garden areas at Villa Baia Blu. The villa and its private pool, open by early May and found at the end of an olive tree lined pathway, are your own slice of the Italian Riviera. Villa Baia Blu is newly restored with top quality finishes throughout and is styled for relaxed modern comfort.
Top notch villas along this stretch of Italy's exclusive coastline have long been the refuge of the most reclusive celebrities on earth. Gregory Peck lived here, Giorgio Armani still does, along many other A-listers who freely intermingle with the locals without nary a glance. This sun-drenched coastline stretching from Camogli to Portofino continues unabated in its beauty all the way to the five fabled fishing villages, best known as the Cinque Terre.
Built into a terraced hillside, Villa Baia Blu is encircled by a pastel colored community of homes and residential complexes found three quarters of a mile above the tiny harbor of Recco. This bright and breezy private home spanning two levels is comprised of a main house and an attached guest house with garden access from each floor and mesmerizing sea views.
All six bedrooms are air conditioned and come with a private bath. With the exception of one bedroom opening to a lush garden area, all the others face the harbor. Villa Baia Blu's specially selected furnishings, fittings and décor complement the Italian Riviera coastal lifestyle.
From the meticulously sculpted garden paths lined with white rose bushes, French doors lead into warm yet contemporary interiors that include two living rooms and a spacious eat-in kitchen destined to become a magnet for gatherings. While part of the attraction are the original country touches left behind from the home's centuries old roots, such as a marble sink and vibrant hand painted tiles, it's more likely this room's popularity is attributed to two sets of glass French doors opening to a sun-washed dining terrace with a barbecue that appears suspended above the bay of Recco.
The main living room is ideally used as a family room with English-speaking premium movie channels and a sound system fed by an iPod dock. Cleaning, a breakfast buffet, meal service and a cooking class may be arranged when booking.
For the sturdy walkers, the town of Recco is a 3/4 of a mile winding, downhill stroll on a paved road or a quick three minute drive. Recco is a practical and modern town with a supermarket open daily, a mainline train station, a small pebbled cove beach, a Monday morning outdoor market and numerous cafés, restaurants, specialty grocers and focaccerie (this tasty flatbread originated right here!). The pedestrian-only, waterfront boardwalk offers a children's park. During summer months, excursion boats depart for Portofino, Genoa's old port and on a couple of days a week to the Cinque Terre.
Recco is close to several picturesque fishing villages. Camogli and its café lined boardwalk is a 10 minute drive east. While en route to sophisticated Portofino, reached in 15 minutes, take the detour to the tiny hamlet of San Rocco, a hidden treasure on the Portofino promontory. This tiny enclave offers walking paths leading to an ancient abbey and a "daily catch" restaurant only reached on foot or by boat.
Recco's nearby rail line allows easy exploration of the Riviera's many fishing villages and resort towns including the Cinque Terre. Trains from Recco to Monterosso al Mare reach the first Cinque Terre village in just 70 minutes.
From Villa Baia Blu, a day trip into Tuscany to tour Lucca or Pisa is easily doable. Here are the driving times for more day trip options: Santa Margherita, Camogli or the A12 highway entrance: 10 minutes; Portofino: 15; Rapallo: 20; Genova or Sestri Levante: 30; Albisola: 40; Monterosso al Mare (Cinque Terre): 70; Lucca or Pisa: 90; San Remo, Monte Carlo, Turin or Parma: 2 hours; Florence, Milan or Nice, France: 2.5 hours
