Interior Décor
Newly restored with hard wood floors, exposed cross support beams and bathrooms tiled with red marble from Verona, make Tortuga's decor both tasteful and traditional. A single sofabed for one child age 12 and under may be arranged at booking for a fee. Air conditioning and triple paned windows are throughout.

Intown
This property is located within a city or town. A car is not necessary.

Kitchen
While the counter space is limited, the hideaway kitchen area features a microwave, toaster and an electric espresso maker in replace of an oven.

Minuses
If the triple paned windows are not closed, an occasional boat horn from docking ships 400 yards away can be heard. While a few restaurants and shops are in walking distance, access to a variety of dining and shopping options requires going to the historic center, a 10 minute boat ride.

Walk 200 yards from the Palanca vaporetto stop to the building entrance. An elevator leads to all five floors. A private water taxi dock is within 20 feet. Guests must be agile given the cobblestoned, pedestrian lanes of Venice.

Pluses
Exceptional views of the Giudecca canal (one of the most scenic in Venice) and across to the picturesque Zattere boardwalk. Top quality air conditioned interiors.

Included in the price are: use of the Hilton Hotel's free shuttle service across the canal, heat and electricity, daily maid service with towel changes, a breakfast basket, laundry service and wireless Internet access arranged by the English-speaking reception office.

The island of Giudecca runs at a calmer pace compared to touristy Venice while being only a 10 minute boat ride from Piazza San Marco - quite a desirable location.

Road Condition
On foot. Guests must walk 200 yards from the Palanca vaporetto stop.

TV
Satellite Basic package - A limited number of channels with most of them being Italian. There are one or two news channels in the English language.

This corner unit has the most desirable Venice view - one overlooking a canal. The living/dining room and bedroom of Tortuga sit front and center looking out onto the Giudecca canal and across to an impressive Venetian promenade.

Washing Machine
There is a common laundry area next to the reception office with a washing machine for the use of guests. Laundry may also be left with the cleaner to wash and return to guests to hang dry in their unit.

What's nearby
Shopping and Dining: Five dining options are found next door at the Hilton Hotel. Along the boardwalk 70 yards away is Harry's Dolci - the bistro affiliated with the Hotel Cipriani and one of the best restaurants in Venice. Within 250 yards are three osterie with tables along the canal, a small supermarket, a bakery, fish market, salumeria, butcher, cafe bar/gelateria, small pharmacy, ATM and a tobacco shop that sells vaporetto tickets. Within a 5 minute vaporetto ride across the canal is the Zattere boardwalk with a variety of shopping and dining options.

Not To Be Missed:
Along the Rio San Trovaso, near the church of San Trovaso in the Dorsoduro area, is one of the few surviving workshops called Squero di San Trovaso where gondolas are made by hand.

The Accademia Gallery - the mother of all Venetian galleries covering the 13-18th century school of Venetian painting. Also, Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal housing the Peggy Guggenheim Collection - the most important museum in Italy for European and American art of the first half of the 20th century.

Take the vaporetto (water ferry) to the island of Murano, 25 minutes travel time, and visit the Museum of Glassmaking in Palazzo Giustinian featuring glassworks from the 15th-18th century. Closed on Wednesdays.

Public Transportation: The Palanca ferry stop is 200 yards away with service to the Santa Lucia train station, Piazzale Roma, Piazza San Marco, the Rialto Bridge and seasonal service to the Lido along one line and Murano along another. Piazzale Roma for those arriving by car is a 25 minute ferry ride away. Free shuttle service runs every 20 minutes from 8am to midnight and has two stops: crossing the canal to Zattere (Dorsoduro area) in 5 minutes and Piazza San Marco in 10 minutes.

Open Air Markets: Near the Accademia ferry stop are early morning fresh fish and vegetable stands. The Rialto bridge has a daily outdoor market, with the exception of Sundays.
