Orvieto Stylish Apartment
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
We often hear from guests wanting to experience life "like an Italian". When asked for details, many describe strikingly similar visions! Among the most popular: strolling cobblestoned lanes to arrive at a quaint café…the barista warmly greets you by name and serves your coffee and brioche as you like it; taking a shortcut along a flower-draped passage to the baker's oven just as hot, crusty loaves emerge; partaking in the sunset passegiata, gelato in hand, while overlooking endless green hills and vineyards.
If these images reflect your inner Italian, you belong in one of Italy's romantic hill towns. Orvieto is a strong favorite for many reasons:
While considerable walking in a hill town demands uncompromised agility, Orvieto can be experienced without a rental car. Reliance on public transit requires diving deeper into Italian lifestyle and having the patience to shrug off the occasional whim of transit scheduling. As such, day trip options lean more toward cities and towns versus countryside exploration. From Porta, walk 600 yards to Piazza Cahen where buses or the seasonal cable car take mere minutes to descend down to the Orvieto Scalo train station with direct service to Rome in 80 minutes.
For larger groups of up to 8 guests, Parker Villas also rents Casa al Duomo, another apartment for four guests on an upper floor. When Porta and Casa are rented together, the dining tables of Porta al Duomo's terrace and eat- in kitchen expand to seat 8 guests. The living room of Casa al Duomo allows for all to socialize inside. View the sister apartment: Casa al Duomo for 4 guests
The friendly, English-speaking owners live a few doors away and sell handcrafted papyrus in their stationery shops in town. If reserved when booking, guests are invited to their workshop for a demonstration in the ancient art of paper making. The owners are proud Orvietani, eager to point out their favorite local eateries and attractions.
Corso Cavour, a main shopping street, is right around the corner within 200 yards. A dozen restaurants line the walk. Continue 350 yards to Piazza Popolo to join the excitement (and savings) taking place every Thursday and Saturday morning at the lively outdoor market. Limited on street parking lies within 30 yards, and a metered lot is 150 yards away.
By car, the A1 highway exit is 15 minutes away; Lake Bolsena: 20; Todi: 30; Montepulciano or Deruta: 45; Spoleto or Perugia: 60; Siena, Assisi or Rome: 90.
The apartment is air conditioned, and each bathroom has a portable hairdryer.
