Classic Tuscan Farmhouse
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
Discovering Tuscany in the company of friends and loved ones is a lifelong experience. Doing so in privacy and spacious comfort makes it all the more enjoyable.
Villa Tramonto lords over 10 private acres and is surrounded by rolling, wooded hills and lush meadows. Completely restored, the main villa and its two bedroom cottage are built on a sloping rise. The villa occupies the highest point. The cottage lies on a level below, and the pool along with a furnished covered patio occupy the lowest level.
Shade trees are everywhere, providing cool rustling breezes and utter seclusion. Amidst the sheltering privacy, there are also strategic clearings showing views of one of Tuscany's most prized possessions - its striking and untouched countryside. The most far reaching panorama are from the villa and cottage's furnished patios.
This non-smoking farmhouse offers interiors that are authentically restored yet comfortable for modern day living. All the bedrooms are air conditioned along with the living room, dining room and billiard area. A well thought out floor plan creates plenty of space with living and dining rooms opening into one another. Modern appliances seamlessly mesh with original cotto floors and an open hearth fireplace in the living room. All of the property's windows are screened, and the house has a washer and dryer.
The cozy living room opens onto the dining room which comfortably seats all. A large square dining table let's everyone converse at mealtime. A billiard table adds entertainment to the entry foyer. To emphasize the home's tasteful décor, each bedroom has its own bathroom and personality expressed by various color schemes. One bedroom in the main house is a tad larger and comes with a balcony and two French beds.
Chefs will adore the main villa's country kitchen. This long narrow hall sets its appliances at one end, a farmer's table for preparation in the center and an 18th-century, wood burning oven and a waist-high fireplace for grilling at the opposite end. The cottage also has a full kitchen of its own. Beside the pool, a covered dining area with a marble top table, a wood burning barbecue, a pizza oven and a small refrigerator make it just as enjoyable to cook outside.
Included in the price are two refresh cleanings with towels changed. More cleaning, and Tuscan themed meals may be ordered when booking. The owner’s mother teaches a half-day cooking class, available at Actividayz.com, in her home, a 10 minute drive away: "Mamma's Tuscan Table". This class includes learning how to use a wood burning oven for bread making – a technique to practice when returning home to Villa Tramonto. A pizza night can also be ordered for guests wanting to make their own pizza using the wood burning oven.
The last uphill mile leading to the property is unpaved and bumpy and is best navigated with smaller rental cars. A minibus does not fit the width of the driveway.
Beginning in 2018, Villa Tramonto may be rented to smaller groups with up to 10 guests in the spring and fall. At this price, the cottage is closed.
The gorgeous hill town of Cetona, 10 minutes away by car, features alluring boutiques, wealthy residents - Giorgio Armani and others maintain residences here - good restaurants, medieval and Renaissance churches, palaces, forts and a weekly outdoor market every Saturday. Notable among the town's many events are the Corsa delle Brocche, a historic race held the last week in July; an arts and food festival held the first two weeks in October; the Fall Fair on the last Sunday in November and the olive oil festival on the last weekend of the year.
Sarteano, also a 10 minute drive away has a medieval dinner on August 8th and offers more restaurants, shops and markets; Mt. Cetona and the prehistoric Belvedere caves: 10 minutes; the Roman bath at San Casciano dei Bagni: 15; Etruscan Chiusi and its main line train station: 20; Chianciano Terme: 20; Città della Pieve: 30; Montepulciano: 35; Castiglione del Lago: 40; Orvieto: 45; Cortona or Arezzo: 50; Perugia or Montalcino: 60; Florence, Siena or Assisi: 90; Rome: 120.
