Before I start gushing about how beautiful this house is and how close it is to major attractions in both Tuscany and Umbria - it's all of that and more - can I mention some unique features? Like a wooden playhouse, that sits by the pool, with running water and screens on the window. The pool itself where the shallow end is purposefully sectioned off from the deeper end. The "secret path" that leads to the garden and many hide and seek games. How about a 100 year old shade tree? A swing under a pergola? The croquet court? The wood burning bread oven? I almost forgot the ping pong table in a cottage that's open in the summer.
One of the most amazing aspects of this villa is its central tower built by the Etruscans around 600 BC. Imagine, over 2600 years ago this bulwark stood watch over an ancient dominion centuries before the Colosseum and the Forum were even conceived. Most astounding of all, this historic treasure can become your home for a once in a lifetime experience.
Inside this great villa, among the artistic owner's paintings and works, are three single bedrooms, ideal for the you-know-whos in the family. The ground floor bathroom even has a sink that's not too tall at all.
Bigger folk will revel in a kitchen big enough for multiple cooks. It comes complete with a large, open-hearth fireplace. Both the living room and the dining room open onto a large covered, furnished terrace with sofas and chairs - an outdoor living room! Back inside, all the bedrooms are air conditioned, and like the playhouse, they have screens on the windows. The villa is big, very well furnished and gets lots of light. Aside from the gardener who comes daily to tend the pool and gardens, or the maid or cook who must be arranged when booking, Villa Montecristo is private too.
While little people are held in rather high esteem, smokers are not. You'll need to light up elsewhere. Shopping, restaurants, trains to Rome or Florence and the entrance to the A1 highway can all be found within a 10 minute drive in the old Etruscan capital of Chiusi. The rejuvenating spas at Chianciano Terme and the family friendly attractions of Lake Trasimeno are each within 20 minute drives; Montepulciano or Cittą della Pieve: 25; Cortona or Orvieto: 45; Montalcino or Perugia: 60; Siena or Florence: 90; Rome: 120. So who's excited now?
