In what many aficionados consider the most scenic part of Tuscany, this very private villa enjoys sweeping views, plenty of creature comforts and charming rustic simplicity.
Built centuries ago as a nobleman's lodge, Villa Cacciatore was restored as a B&B only to find its true purpose as the perfect vacation retreat for families seeking quality time together. Amidst all this beauty and tranquility, the closest neighbor, a wheat farmer may till within 60 yards of the pool area. An occasional fox, rabbit or boar may also cross your path. That's it. This world is yours.
Given the home's elevated position, views of Tuscany's untouched countryside are incomparable. Whether inside or outside, a vast quilted patchwork of gently rolling hills and meadows lead to the ancient hill town of Celle sul Rigo and Monte Cetona in the distance.
Aside from the pool, there's a bocce court, a ping pong table, a wood burning oven and a barbecue for your outdoor enjoyment. The fun continues inside with a billiard room and a PC with satellite Internet service included in the price.
Original terracotta floors, stone walls, beamed ceilings and an open-hearth fireplace are well suited to the simple and comfortable Tuscan furnishings. Air conditioning is in all bedrooms and living rooms. Each bedroom has at least one screened window. A mid week cleaning is included in the price. More cleaning service and dinners may be ordered when booking.
The final approach to the villa is on one mile of unpaved bumpy road. Smaller cars are advised. The medieval tower crowning the citadel of Radicofani, 10 minutes away by car, was once the impenetrable stronghold of Ghino di Tacco, an Italian Robin Hood, who protected or plagued the area, depending on your point of view.
In town are two restaurants, a grocer, interesting architecture and a wooden cross by Andrea della Robbia in St. Agata's church. The street market opens the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Whether you come for the December Christmas concert, the Mille Miglia race in May or the pageant on the first Sunday in August, there is always something happening in Radicofani.
Celle sul Rigo is within a 10 minute drive; the spa towns of San Casciano dei Bagni, Bagno Vignoni or Sarteano: 15; picture perfect Cetona: 20; Etruscan Chiusi and its major rail station: 30; Montepulciano or Pienza: 40; Orvieto: 60; Siena or Arezzo: 70; Perugia: 80; Florence: 100; Rome: two and a half hours.
