From a wooded hillside position, this villa with its pool and grounds overlooks miles of classic Tuscan scenery. Villa Bonjovi is in a blissful part of Tuscany known as the Montagnola Senese. It lies halfway between the towers of Monteriggioni and the walls of Siena.
While physically close to everything, the area is centuries removed. Lush forests and quaint little villages are strung together by panoramic hiking trails and gently winding country roads. During this villa's construction, nearly 1000 years ago, its builders uncovered an ancient Etruscan crypt adjacent to where the hearth was to be. Like much of Italy, built on the remains of the past, the crypt was reborn as a storage pantry!
Today, Villa Bonjovi lives serenely as a comfortable non-smoking vacation home. Its spacious and terraced grounds offer sun and shaded areas as well as a lovely pool. Both the pergola and the patio are furnished for dining.
Inside, beamed ceilings and terracotta floors complement a traditional Tuscan décor marred only by the addition of screened windows, satellite television, a CD player and a billiard room for your gaming pleasure.
From two of the bedrooms, there are expansive views of the countryside and of Siena shimmering in the distance. The rest gaze across the pretty grounds towards the surrounding woods with an occasional glimpse of the rolling countryside. An internal window, next to the fireplace, looks into the now empty Etruscan pantry. Cleaning service and meals may be arranged when booking.
The private approach road is shared with a villa abutting Villa Bonjovi that is mostly used on the weekends and a third home, 50 yards away.
The nearest restaurant, in the village of Riciano, is within a 10 minute drive. Both Monteriggioni and the entrance to the Firenze - Siena highway are within 15 minutes by car; Siena: 20; Colle Val d'Elsa or the golf course in San Rocco a Pilli: 30; Castellina, San Gimignano or Montalcino: 40; Radda or Florence: 60 and Cortona: 90.
A tourist tax collected by the town is paid separately on the first three nights. Children under age 12 are exempt.
