Here's an opportunity to go native in a small, untouristy Tuscan town. Torta della Nonna is an affordable base that's within easy reach of many of the region's main attractions. Even the fabled Cinque Terre in neighboring Liguria is just an hour away.
Torta della Nonna is a two level home on the town's main street. The bakery on the ground floor will do its best to wake you daily with the scent of freshly baked bread and honey filled brioches, a specialty of theirs. A block away is a gelateria, a grocery store and more shops. While urban sounds are to be expected in town, one gains an opportunity to partake in the rhythm of modern day life in a tourist-free Italian town.
The first floor rooms feature decorative ceramic tile floors while the second floor has sloping beamed ceilings with skylights. The kitchen has doors to a furnished terrace. Air conditioning, a dishwasher and a washing machine enhance this simply furnished casa.
As would befit any nonna, smoking is not allowed inside. If requested when booking, maid service may be arranged.
Chiesina Uzzanese is between Lucca and Pistoia and less than a mile from the autostrada. Within 300 yards, a bus stop services Montecatini Terme, Lucca or Pistoia in approximately 20 minutes. Pisa's leaning tower or the beaches of Viareggio are within 30 minute drives; Florence or Livorno: 40; Siena, San Gimignano or La Spezia: 60.
