Italy Vacation Rentals - Certified Homes, Villas, & Apartments
Luxury vacation rental with pool on the Italian Riviera
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
Whether for leisure or residency, the fashionable Italian Riviera ranks high among Italian intelligentsia and jet setters. Visually stunning sea views frame colorful fishing villages where bakers and fruit vendors ply their goods next to vibrant and trendy boutiques. The air is cosmopolitan. A sunny, semi tropical climate perfectly mirrors seaside promenades lined with open air cafes, bars and restaurants beneath the shade of swaying palm trees. Simply put, the Italian Riviera is a class act.
The challenge becomes securing quality rental homes that embody the region's best attributes at an affordable price. The most exquisite locations are never rented out and much of what remains is highly priced mediocrity. Compared to anything remotely near its price and quality, Riviera Oleandra is a definite standout with a swimming pool, incomparable sea views, deeded parking and an ample shaded and private terrazzo. Set within a gated estate, Riviera Oleandra is the most prominent condominium in a sprawling classic seafront villa comprised of 10 units. This fully restored, amenity laden property was the former summer estate of a prominent Italian industrialist.
The villa, surrounded by meticulously manicured lawns, blossoming greenery and scenic walkways makes for a garden oasis. From a gated entry, steep stone staircases carved into a sheer cliff descend to a couple of sunbathing platforms amid the rocky shore. Due to the rocks and current, only strong swimmers should access the sea from this point. For everyone else, we recommend the estate's shared swimming pool, open mid-May through mid-September that's filled with water piped in directly from the sea. The neighboring towns of Bogliasco and Recco, each within a few minutes' drive also offer picturesque, beach clubs set on small pebbly coves and inlets.
Rivieria Oleandra is a spacious, upper floor corner unit with an oversized sea view terrace that's well furnished for dining and has a gas grill. All of the rooms have central air conditioning, and each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom with marble showers. An elevator opens to the entry level with an open floor plan. The dining room flows into a large living room with three sets of double glass doors opening to a sea view loggia. A stairway leads up to the top floor housing two of the three bedrooms with skylights to accommodate the sloping ceiling on this level.
The estate is part of the neighborhood of Pieve Ligure, a splendidly convenient spot for moving all along the coast. While Oleandra comes with two private parking spaces inside the grounds, it is possible to move about by train or bus provided that guests are comfortable with the 300 yard uphill walk on the driveway to reach the Aurelia road hugging the shoreline. Narrow sidewalks lead to the small villages of Bogliasco (1.2 miles away) in one direction or Sori in the other (1 mile away).
The Pieve Ligure train station is about one third of a mile walk, and it services all the coastal towns from Genova to Sestri Levante; visiting the Cinque Terre by train is possible with a change of train in Sestri. The entire trip takes about 80 minutes to reach Monterosso al Mare, the first of the five villages. Throughout the entire mountainous region of the Italian Riviera, trains hug the level coastline. Tracks are 50 yards to the rear of the villa. Passing trains are heard while on the terrace, while good windows reduce the impact to a muffle indoors.
Insider Tip! Be sure to visit the quaint village of Nervi within a 12 minute drive or a couple of stops by train. On a beautiful sunny afternoon, of which there are many in Liguria, the locals flock to the Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi, a 1.2 mile seaside walkway with the occasional cafe and restaurant along the route. The stroll continues into the Park of Nervi, a 22 acre botanical garden with jogging paths and a children's playground; the gardens belonged to four impressive villas that are now art museums open to the public.
Whether the goal is total relaxation and soaking up the sensational sea scenery or touring about to see as much of the Rivieria as possible, Oleandra is ideal for both. The coastal towns of Camogli, Santa Margherita, Rapallo and Portofino are all within very easy reach. If your stay extends beyond one week, take a jaunt over to Monaco or Nice along the French Riviera in just a couple of hours. A day trip into Piemonte's wine country is possible and so is an afternoon in Lucca or Pisa.
20 stairs lead up to the third floor: One bedroom with a queen size bed and en suite bathroom with two marble sinks, Jacuzzi-style tub with hand held shower and a separate shower stall. One bedroom with a queen bed; upon request with advance notice, this room can be configured with two single beds. Adjacent bathroom with shower. All rooms are air conditioned. Hairdryers supplied.
