Charming apartment in Rapallo.
Parker Villas Exclusive - A private pocket listing available nowhere else
Whether exploring the Italian Riviera by car, train or even by boat, Gabbiano is an alluring home base for active travelers regardless of how they prefer to get around. Rapallo, one of the Rivera's lively resort towns, is perfectly suited for the age-old Italian arts of leisurely strolling a seaside promenade, window-shopping and outdoor café hopping in pursuit of devouring creamy Genovese Pesto, savoring freshly caught seafood and finally, sampling the many flavors of heavenly gelato. From Gabbiano, simply step outside the front door and join the fun.
Gabbiano is an air conditioned, top floor apartment looking out over the pedestrian-only heart of medieval Rapallo. From this newly renovated home, it's an 80 yard walk along narrow lanes teeming with cafes, restaurants and specialty shops to the seaside boardwalk with a dock for ferry boats. From May through September, boat excursions depart for the Cinque Terre or Genova harbor, and a water ferry makes stops in Santa Margherita, Portofino and the San Fruttuoso abbey.
The choice of whether to rent a car or not is entirely up to you. Included in the price is parking for one car in a town lot, 250 yards away. One small caveat - this lot hosts Rapallo's outdoor market on Thursday morning. Guests need to purchase parking in another lot for Wednesday evening. For those without a car, frequent rail and bus service reaches all the coastal towns. Buses and a train station are 350 yards away.
Inside, this newly restored, smoke-free apartment features a bright and airy, uncomplicated motif, comfortable furnishings, a brand new kitchen and access to a shared rooftop terrace. A section of the terrace is set aside for Gabbiano guests and is furnished with a dining table, umbrella and chaise lounge chairs. The panoramic roof deck overlooks the town with its signature bell tower, the harbor and the surrounding mountains.
The check-in appointment takes place at a nearby 4-star hotel. A luggage porter will then lead you on foot to Gabbiano, 250 yards away. Guests are invited to return to the hotel each morning for a continental breakfast buffet. Along with daily breakfast, the price conveniently includes heat, air conditioning, a luggage porter, a mid-week cleaning and towel change, Wi-Fi and a six-day parking pass.
By car, the exit of the A12 motorway is 5 minutes away making this a great spot for exploring the colorful fishing villages along the coast. For longer stays, it's ideal for jaunts to France, northern Tuscany or the vineyards of Piedmont. Neighboring Santa Margherita with its art galleries and seaside nightlife is a 10 minute drive; the mega yachts tied up in Portofino's picturesque port or the charming fishing village of Camogli: 15 minutes; Sestri Levante: 25; Genova: 30; Sarzana: 45; Monterosso al Mare (Cinque Terre), Forte dei Marmi (Tuscan coast) or Gavi: 70; Lucca or Pisa: 90; Florence, San Remo, Parma or Torino: 2 hours.
Rooftop Terrace: From the building hallway, 13 steps lead up to the shared rooftop terrace with a private furnished section for guests.
