The owner speaks fluent English and lives nearby. His parents live on the estate and speak Italian and French.

For those taking along a laptop or an Internet capable device (ie. tablets, smartphones, iPads, iPhones), DSL WiFi is provided. Multiple users within range of the stationery modem have Internet access.

Heating is paid on-site in Euro.

Interior Décor
Newer construction - Simply and comfortably furnished as a bright and cozy country cottage.

Interior Amenities: There is an air conditioning unit on each level. All the windows are screened. The spacious bathroom features a large shower. A portable hairdryer is present.

The galley style kitchen is good sized for a cottage for 2 guests. It is equipped with a gas stove top, oven, microwave, fridge, toaster and US style coffemaker.

While Cottage Vacuna has its own private outdoor area and barbecue, the pool area is one level below and is shared with the owners and their guests. The owner has an unleashed dog.

A phone is not provided at this rental - we suggest bringing your own phone and adding an international plan for the trip.

Parking is free at the property.

Steps & Stairs
From the parking area, walk 50 yards on a gravel walkway and up 5 steps to the cottage entrance. There are 6 steps to reach the bedroom and bathroom. Guests and luggage may be dropped off just before the entry steps.

This olive oil producing estate offers a Tuscan-like setting with lovely country scenery and is within an hour's commute of Rome - a great way to combine a relaxing country stay with a couple of visits into Rome.

Included in the price is a 90 minute estate tour with a tasting of three oils made on-site. The friendly owner offers a 45 minute morning walk through the nearby town introducing guests to the best shops and artisans. Day and time of the tour are arranged with the owner upon arrival.

The cottage is air conditioned with a programmable thermostat to help reduce utility costs.

Shared with the owner and their guests. Pool opens May 15th and closes on the first Friday in October. Pool towels are provided.

Road Condition
Upon exiting the A1 autostrada, the route is along easy paved roads to the town of Poggio Mirteto. The final mile heads away from town on a narrow paved road that requires pulling aside for passing cars. The estate's private road has a sharp turn at the start. Compact and mid size roads are easier to navigate on the final approach.

Property has screened windows.

Satellite Basic package - A limited number of channels with most of them being Italian. There are one or two news channels in the English language.

Exceptional panoramic views looking out over the olive groves, countryside, hill towns and mountains in the distance. The best views are from the furnished garden and the living room.

What's nearby
Nearby Shopping: Poggio Mirteto's town center is just over a mile away with several shops, cafes, gelaterie, butcher, post office, ATM, pharmacy, wine shop and a shop making fresh pasta. There are two large supermarkets along the route from the cottage to the A1 highway. An outlet mall is near the A1 exit at Soratte and is open 7 days per week, 10 am to 8 pm.

Public Transportation: Poggio Mirteto Scalo, the newer section of town, is a 10 minute drive with train service into Rome's Tiburtina station taking 55 minutes. Service runs just about hourly with half hour frequency during commuter hours. The last train leaves Rome for Poggio Mirteto at 10:30 pm. An alternate option is to drive 20 minutes to Fara in Sabina where commuter trains leave every 15 minutes and take 40 minutes to reach Tiburtina station. The last train leaves Rome at 10 pm. Inside Tiburtina's train station, there is a Metro stop (line B). Both towns mentioned offer free parking.

Walking & Hiking: The nature reserve at Mt. Soratte is a 35 minute drive and offers marked walking and hiking trails for all levels of difficulty with one route specifically designed to stop at well preserved hermitages and another focuses on caves.
