Aptly named, the Olive Garden is comprised of the owner's villa and two rental homes found amidst the silver groves of a family run, olive oil producing estate. All three homes share a large swimming pool with each having its own private outdoor space. Cottage Saba, a freestanding home nestled beside an olive grove offers the most privacy being 120 yards below the other homes and the pool area. The hilly olive grove separates Cottage Saba from the other homes making only its rooftop visible from the pool area above.
A spectacular panorama of verdant countryside ringed by the backdrop of the Sabine Mountains is enjoyed from Cottage Saba's furnished garden, first floor balcony and its covered patio with a barbecue. The scenery matches the picture perfect enchantment of Tuscany while offering easy proximity to the Eternal City of Rome. By car, Rome is just over an hour away or a 10 minute drive leads to a train station with free parking and service into Rome's Tiburtina station where the Metro is located.
The kind and friendly owners of the Olive Garden along with their trusty, black Labrador reside over 16 acres of olive trees and a variety of flora including palms, fruit and nut trees. When in residence, one family member speaks fluent English. For those renting during November's olive harvest, he'll gladly show the oil making process. Meals, cleaning service and bicycle rental may be arranged when booking.
This three bedroom country cottage is comfortably furnished and has a bathroom for each bedroom, screens on all windows and doors, two fireplaces, two kitchens and air conditioning throughout with the exception of the ground floor bedroom. Upon arrival, guests can ask the owners to program the thermostat to coincide with the times they expect to depart for and return from daytrips in order to manage the cost of utilities.
A narrow road, about one mile long, leads from the village of Poggio Mirteto to the private driveway for Cottage Saba, a 120 yard unpaved steep lane through the olive grove. It takes less than five minutes to drive into this delightful little, non-touristy town. This pre-Roman citadel of Sabine origin has several small purveyors for immediate shopping needs: cafes, a butcher, post office, pharmacy, wine shop, fresh pasta shop and many more. Rieti, the artsy provincial capital of the region is within a 40 minute drive. Closer in, the area is full of ancient monasteries and hermitages, beautiful rolling hills dappled with 11 lakes and a series of majestic mountains.
Ideal for touring Rome by day and returning to the pristine countryside in the evening, Cottage Saba also allows for spending a day or two in Umbria with Terni, Orvieto or Todi within an hour's drive; Spoleto: 80; Perugia, L'Aquila or Anzio (Lazio coast): 100; Assisi or Montepulciano: 120.
