Roman Holiday

Piazza Navona, Roma, Roma

Shopping and Dining: Being in the heart of historic Rome, there are an abundance of restaurants, pizzerie, cafes and shopping. An osteria with outdoor seating is located on the same street and is open for lunch and dinner. There are three more dining establishments on the same street. A Despar supermarket is 250 yards away along Via dei Giustiniani that's open daily from 8:30 am to 10 pm.

Within Walking Distance: Within a 400 yard walk is the Pantheon or Campo dei Fiori with its daily market of fresh vegetables, fruits and flowers until 1 pm. A half mile walk leads to the Trevi fountain or Castel Sant'Angelo and within three quarters of a mile are the Spanish steps and the shops of Via dei Condotti.

Public Transportation: Termini station with service to Milan, Florence and Napoli is nearly two miles away. Within 300 yards, buses stop along two main roads bordering Piazza Navona with service to the major sights that are not within easy walking distance. A route along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II leads to Termini station and St. Peter's. Another route along Corso del Rinascimento makes stops in Piazza Venezia, the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums.

Not To Be Missed: Cruises along the Tiber River leave daily from the Sant'Angelo dock and pass by Tibertina Island. Visit the remains of Emperor Hadrian's grand estate at Tivoli, just east of Rome. This site is reached via a 30 minute Metro ride on Line B to the Rebibbia station and then a short bus ride from the station to Tivoli.

Beach: The beaches in Ostia are 20 minutes by car. Take the Rome-Lido train from the Piramide Line B underground station. Departs every 20 minutes up to 9 pm.

Open Air Markets: Every Sunday in Porta Portese is the city's largest and best known market. Campo dei Fiori has a daily morning market with vendors selling vegetables, fruit and flowers. Piazza Navona's Christmas market takes place from mid-December to January 6.
