From a spectacular sun drenched terrace overlooking Mount Vesuvius and the sensuous Bay of Naples, Capitano hovers high above the picturesque fishing village of Marina di Lobra. Built on a verdant hillside facing the sea, Capitano is part of a small gated community housing six independent condominiums. This westernmost promontory of the Amalfi coast is midway between Sorrento and Positano.
Warm weather and gorgeous scenery invoke outdoor living. Capitano’s oversized terrazzo is festooned with flowers and enjoys seating areas for dining, lounging and sunning, an outdoor shower and a gas grill. Those wanting to avoid the numerous steps of the Amalfi coast hills will appreciate the level, 30 yard paved walkway from the parking and the scant two steps needed to access the main floor.
Fully air conditioned, Capitano’s simple and summery interiors are set on two levels. From the main entrance, the living room and two bedrooms face the sea view terrace. An external terracotta stairway from the terrace leads down to a semi-interred level with two additional bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom. The bedroom with a French bed is unheated and is closed off from December through April.
Recent upgrades to this vacation home include window screens, a laptop with dial up Internet access and IPod speakers. Cleaning services are available on request.
Within 400 yards in either direction are two churches. One shares its square with a rustic pizzeria and the other with a tiny convenience store. The quaint fishing harbor of Marina di Lobra with three distinct dining choices, one specializing in the daily catch is reached in a 10 minute downhill drive. Massa Lubrense and Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi with more shops and dining options are both reached in eight minutes by car.
Sorrento, within a 20 minute drive, offers plenty to see and do, as well as ferries to the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida and trains heading north to Pompeii, Naples and Rome. Positano, the jewel of the Amalfi coast lies 30 minutes south of Capitano. Amalfi, Pompeii and Ravello are within an hour's drive.
